School's Out!

School ended last Thursday, June 12th.  Ah, the summer has officially begun.  My sister Amanda and her husband John came down from the Bay Area for a short, but sweet, trip.  We had a great time visiting some of my favorite places around here.

Thursday night we went to my often frequented Irish Pub, the James Joyce, to hear my friends' local band, the Kinsella Brothers, play some rock & roll.

Friday, we picked up sandwiches at South Coast Deli and went to Butterfly Beach in Montecito.  We couldn't decide what we wanted for dinner, so we tried a new idea: a restaurant crawl.  On our way from my place downtown to The Brewhouse near the beach, we hit four fantastic restaurants for a drink and a shared appetizer. You all know what foodies Amanda and I are, but I must compliment John on his enthusiasm.  At Elements we had the southern duck confit and pumpkin waffle.  Hungry Cat was home to a wonderful local halibut tartare with ginger, cilantro, lime, and radish salad.  At Milk & Honey we had slightly spicy paellita, and at Blue Agave we had handcut fries with chipotle aioli.  By the time we reached The Brewhouse we weren't very hungry, but had to order the fire roasted artichoke on principle.

It was the perfect beginning to my summer vacation! Yum! ;)
