My Summer So Far

Summer '09 has been quite the adventure.  Since June 5th, I have spent a total of 15 nights in my own bed!
Beginning with a red carpet film event in LA (where I didn't even get close to the carpet), a trip back east, a conference that turned out to be a much bigger deal than I thought it would be, and most recently another night in LA.
The film was part of the Playhouse West Film Festival.  Brittany has decided to become an actress, so I suppose these things will happen in the next few years.  The film was pretty good, with footage from Marin - which made me homesick.
Two weeks in the glory of Jersey and DC made me miss Santa Barbara, but also wish my family could be closer - or that someone would invent faster planes so weekend trips could be possible.
A quick layover in the Bay Area to hang out with the Checchio girls and Amanda's new puppy was the perfect stop on my way home.
I was able to spend a full 24 hours in SB before boarding a 6 hour train ride to San Diego for the NEA Conference.  I thought this was going to be some rinky-dink conference, but turned out to be the largest delegating body in the world - over 15,000 - talking education.  I was part of my first press conference and protest.  And I thought teaching wouldn't be political!
After an exhausting week in SD, I finally made it back to my home - and an Earth Science conference at UCSB.  I had the opportunity to rub elbows with scientists from NASA and the EPA.
This last little trip - just an overnight to LA -was to help Brittany move into the actor's mecca - Hollywood.  I suppose this means I will spend more time in LA, but I think I'd rather pay for her train ticket to come here.
