A Saturday in Santa Barbara

For those of you who wonder why I chose to make Santa Barbara my permanent home, I'd like to give you a snapshot of what life is like here - my day yesterday.

First, out to breakfast, patio seating three blocks from the beach, and the fruit cup side with my egg scramble is filled to the brim with fresh fruit (none of that canned syruppy stuff).

Then, to the beach. Butterfly Beach, to be specific. It's my favorite. There are many beaches to choose from here, each with their own benefits. East Beach has volleyball nets set up year round and East Beach Grill, for when you get hungry. West Beach is right next to the pier, which has the Ty Warner Sea Center, shops, and restaurants, even a wine tasting venue overlooking the whole area. Ledbetter Beach, down near SBCC, is adjacent to the waterfront/breakwater. There are shops and restaurants - including Brophy Brother's (best clam chowder in town) and Shoreline Cafe, where you can choose to sit on the covered patio or on a table set in the sand - shoes optional - right on the beach. Butterfly, located across from the Biltmore Hotel in Montecito, is a more narrow beach. When the tide is low, one can actually walk along the cliffs from Butterfly to East Beach. The water temperature was great yesterday, but the waves were a bit rough for swimming (there's a storm a'comin') - the surfers were loving it though!
After a few hours at the beach I returned home, showered, and took a bit of a cat nap.

Then, off to the Lane Farms Pumpkin Patch! I was the first one to conquer the corn maze. This is good, considering 4 years ago when my friends had to come back in to rescue me! Turns out it's really hard when it gets dark. ;o)

Finally, back home to get a good night's rest. Dreaming of sand, surf, and sun - hoping the weather gives me a Sunday to rival my Saturday.
