My Favorite Fruit: The Dapple Dandy Pluot

Those of you who do not live in such a fabulous place as I, may not be familiar with this incredible fruit. 75% Plum and 25% Apricot, these delicious stone fruits are actually patented. (US Plant Patent #9524 to be exact.) I've never seen them in the regular grocery, only at farmer's markets and Santa Barbara's one and only Tri County Produce down by the beach. (This is where I do the majority of my grocery shopping - local, fresh, and the prices aren't too high.)

There are many different breeds of this new-fangled fruit. Wikipedia offers a long list with flavor descriptions here. There are even Aprums, which are more Apricot than Plum. The Dapple Dandy takes the cake for me though, with it's mix of plum flavor with almost a hint of Granny Smith Apple tartness. Plus, it's pretty cool lookin' too.
