Quest for the Cookie

Today I made pizzelle with my iron from Italy.  On Tuesday, I set about to solve my foreign appliance problem.  I called travel supply stores - one man even told me it was impossible for me to get my pizzelle iron to work here - and then I did a city search for electrical supply sources.  After a few more phone calls, I was directed to Mar Vac Electric in Goleta.  They were able to figure out exactly what I needed: a 2,000 watt step up/down converter.  Turns out, when you have an appliance that heats up, you need to be able to supply 3x the wattage required.  They even did some research on their own to find the least expensive option for me. My converter arrived today, woo-hoo!

I stopped at the store on my way home to get some sugar, and to cookie making I went.  I used our family's traditional recipe - eggs, sugar, butter, flour, and anise seed.  The cookies came out well - not quite as thin as with my dad's press, but they still taste good!
There are a few recipes included with my Italian press, and I'm looking forward to trying them out another day.
One recipe is for thick cookies, one for thin, another for savory...and although I'd have to find a recipe, I'd love to try making chocolate pizzelle.
Although I may have to sell pizzelle for a while in order to pay for my new piece of heavy duty electrical equipment (the white box in the background),and I have a pretty gnarly burn sizzling on my arm right now; I feel content at solving the seemingly impossible task of getting this Italian appliance to work here in the good ol' USA.
*please forgive the grainy photo - it was taken with my macbook
