OK, so everyone knows not to go grocery shopping when you're hungry, but I did it anyway. In an effort to be more efficient with my use of fuel, I am not taking any unneccesary trips in my car. What this meant today was that I stopped at Tri County Produce on my way home. I was hungry. I also happened to be on the phone with Amanda for most of it, which also doesn't help with the thought processes while shopping.
Point being, I decided to pick up a Spaghetti Squash today. I just grabbed one. I don't know anything about this Spaghetti Squash, or any non-summer squash for that matter. It just sounded good. I picked one up - just any old one, and put it in my basket. I also grabbed a jar of my favorite jarred spaghetti sauce (Santa Barbara Olive Company's Red Wine and Mushroom), because I thought that putting spaghetti sauce on spaghetti squash was something people did.
Those of you who have been to my house know that I have a bit of a cookbook collection - uh, it has it's own bookshelf. You can imagine my astonishment when I return home to find that NOT ONE of my cookbooks - not even The Essential Vegetarian - has a recipe for this squash! Aargh!
Naturally I turn to my food guru Alton Brown. I go to YouTube:Like the Hat, Good Eats, and search for squash. Unfortunately the only reference he makes to spaghetti squash in the episode "Squash Court" is that is cooks better in the microwave. A common household item I NO LONGER HAVE.
Turning next to the ever-trusty foodtv.com, I am happy to find a recipe for spaghetti squash with marinara by my "would totally date him if he weren't married" hottie Italian chef Michael Chiarrello. Basically here it is: cook squash, use a fork to remove from skin, top with marinara. Sounds pretty darn good.
Nope, can't say tasted good - at least not yet. By the time my search was complete - I had already eaten a quarter watermelon, some Veggie Booty (another post), and a yummy sourdough roll. Not only was I no longer hungry, there was no way I was going to wait another 40 minutes baking then 20 minutes cooling, to eat this trouble making squash!
Another day - any recipe suggestions would be fantastic. I am going to go through my other bookshelf where I keep my 4 cooking magazines from the last 5 years - there's GOT to be something there...

I am no help in the spaghetti squash department. I hope that recipe works out for you, and I hope your squash is ready to eat (since you did such a thorough inspection before you bought it!) I am always reluctant to try new veggies, I feel like I never know how to prepare them. I guess I should just call you :)
Check out this web site. It tells you all about spaghetti squash. My sister has a pretty good recipe for spaghetti squash. I emailed her to get the recipe and I will forward it on when I get it.
